What Are Entropion and Ectropion?

Entropion occurs when your eyelid turns in, causing your eyelashes to rub against the cornea. Most patients report pain ( sometimes extreme) and watery eyes due to inflammation. Ectropion describes a condition where your eyelid turns out. This results in irritation, redness, watering, and dryness of the eye.

Entropion and Ectropion Procedures

The type of procedure that you will undergo is called a lateral tarsal strip. Before the operation, you will be given an anesthetic to numb your eyelid and the surrounding area. You may also be sedated lightly to ensure your comfort.

If your condition is age-related, our eye surgeon will extract a small part of your lower eyelid at the outer edge. Stitching the lid back together will make the muscles and tendons tight, causing the lid to settle correctly on the eye. There will be a few stitches at the outer edge of your eyelid opening or beneath your lower eyelid.
